Monsters of men

In the third and final book of the stunning Chaos Walking trilogy we return to New Prentisstown where we left off. You are immediately thrown into the action with Todd having to make an impossible decision and join the Mayors army in the first battle against the marching Spackle, intent on destruction and revenge.
Todd and Viola are caught in the middle of a three way war between three armies each intent on destroying the others. With an entire convoy of ships on their way to the new world they try their best to make peace however it is near impossible when no-one is prepared to back down.

I absolutely loved this book and the characters in it have become part of my life.
The conflicting opinions and actions of the characters are what makes this book so good, because you can reason with every single one of them and it isn't obvious who is right.
As you read through the book you empathise with the characters and feel contrasting emotions towards the range of characters.
I personally think the best character in the book was Mayor Prentiss. He was clever because he was so manipulative and could still convince people he was trustworthy after all the things he had done. However there was always part of me which agreed with him and I thought it was really interesting how Todd and the Mayor influenced each other.

The plot was faultless. It was linked together and flowed brilliantly throughout. Ness ensured that this was a spectacular ending to the trilogy by throwing in dozens of twists and several moments which really challenges you.

Overall this book is nothing short of amazing. I love the way the story is told by Todd, Viola and the Spackle as you get to here the feelings of almost every character. I would recommend this to book to anyone as it will not disappoint.

  1. I agree with the way the story was told as it left you wondering what was going to happen to the other characters and kept you constantly on edge. Great book, and review too!

  2. I'm slightly freaked out that we're all choosing Mayor Prentiss as our favourite character. IT'S EXACTLY WHAT HE'D WANT! *runs away*

  3. I completely agree with everything you said. And Mayor Prentiss has to be the best, most scary villain ever invented. Good review!
